LG Optimus G Pro is fastest selling LG smartphone to date
LG has celebrated its Optimus G Pro 5.5-inch 'phablet' crossing the 500,000 sales mark in its home market of South Korea. The company has achieved the milestone in just 40 days, which is a record for any handset made by the company. Until now, LG has played second-fiddle to arch rival Samsung in the smartphone space, however its latest line Optimus G smartphones along with its Nexus 4 has helped to increase its profile while also garnering positive reviews.
The Optimus G Pro goes head-to-head with Samsung's popular Galaxy Note 2, which has been on the market since the fourth quarter last year. The key difference between the two devices it that LG has opted to avoid the inclusion of a stylus, preferring all-touch control instead. Like Samsung, LG has included a special suite of in-built apps to help users take advantage of the additional screen real estate. Although offering the same screen dimensions, the Optimus G Pro trumps the Galaxy Note 2 for screen resolution, offering a native resolution of 1080p against the Note's 720p display.
The LG Optimus G Pro is also powered by a next-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz, matched with 2GB of RAM. Graphics are provided by the Adreno 320 GPU while it utilizes a relatively high capacity 3,140mAh battery to keep help power its oversize display. LG has layered its custom UI over Android 4.1.2 'Jelly Bean' as well as incorporated several custom apps including QSlide, Live Zooming and QuickMemo. The device is set for Q2 global rollout.
