SkyDrive 3.0 app update may mark end to Apple-Microsoft dispute

updated 03:02 pm EDT, Wed April 3, 2013

No signs of resolution in app content

A v3.0 update of Microsoft's SkyDrive app for iOS has arrived on the App Store. The release appears to mark the end of a dispute between Apple and Microsoft; Apple was reportedly rejecting earlier updates over Microsoft's introduction of the ability to buy extra storage space. The issue is that Apple was demanding a 30 percent cut of subscriptions initiated on the iOS app in perpetuity, even though a person can continue to use SkyDrive even if they stop using the app.

There is no indication in the update, though, of what if anything the two parties might have agreed on. The last version was released in June 2012; v3.0 adds support for the iPhone 5 and iPad mini, and enables full-resolution photo downloads. Microsoft has also improved support for opening SkyDrive files in other apps, as well as uploading files to SkyDrive from those apps. Graphics, including the SkyDrive icon, have been polished.

    Hello abuse of monopoly

"The issue is that Apple was demanding a 30 percent cut of subscriptions in perpetuity, even though a person can continue to use SkyDrive even if they stop using the iOS app. "

Not unlike how MS was charging hardware vendors the 'Windows tax' on every machine sold, regardless if it actually included Windows or not.

Hope Apple enjoys the forthcoming consumer lawsuits.
