Likely storage locker service to work with Google Shopping Express

Google-owned storage locker startup BufferBox is expanding its reach to San Francisco. The expansion from Canada to San Francisco comes at the same time as the search giant commences testing of a same-day delivery service, suggesting that BufferBox and Google Shopping Express may either work together or, after a successful trial, be combined into one service.

BufferBox provides a similar service to Amazon's Locker Delivery program. Customers can opt for deliveries to be made to the BufferBox kiosk instead of at home or work, allowing the package recipient to collect new mail when they want, instead of waiting for a courier to arrive. Google bought the company last December for $17 million, but allowed it to continue under its existing name instead of rebranding as a Google product.

Google Shopping Express allows customers to order goods from local stores and chains, with the aim of delivering it within a small user-selected window of time later in the day. BufferBox would in theory work with the system, suggests TechCrunch, permitting later pick-up times for the customer, as well as possibly selecting a location closer to where they are, if distance from home is a factor.
