AT&T launches 4G LTE in six markets, another 77 by summer

New AT&T 4G LTE markets include Napa, Santa Rosa-Petaluma

Shortly after stating it will build a Gigabit fiber network to compete against Google in Austin, AT&T has expanded its 4G LTE network into six new markets. While this means the carrier is currently covering 182 different markets, AT&T also plans to add another 77 markets to the list by this summer, as the carrier tries to catch up to Verizon Wireless and its 4G LTE network.

LTE is now live in Kalamazoo, MO; Orangeburg, SC; Rocky Mountain-Wilson, NC; Jackson, TN; and Napa and Santa Rosa-Petaluma, CA, according to CNet.

Markets planned to go live by the summer include Manhattan and Topeka, KA; Chattanooga and Cookeville, TN; Columbus and Fort Wayne, IN; Chico, Merced, and Visalia, CA; and ten markets in Texas alone, among others.

AT&T is hoping to activate HD Voice on its network later in 2013, as part of its Voice over LTE strategy. T-Mobile already supports HD Voice on its HSPA, HSPA+, and now-active 4G LTE network.
