Which MacBook Pro is faster?

Yesterday in the MacNN forums, a discussion was started about which MacBook is faster, the 13-inch Retina model or the non-Retina model -- with many stating they would prefer a Retina model regardless of speed. Earlier this week, Forum Regular "fritzair" started the thread titled "A7 chip: is Apple the locomotive on this train?" which started a discussion about the future of processors.

Moderator "ibook_steve" is considering crafting their own Fusion Drive setup with a Samsung 840 and a 750GB spinning drive, but is first looking for suggestions from anyone who may have done this already. One Senior User is looking for a way to move OS X to a new SSD recovery partition in this thread. Fresh-Faced Recruit "AlanSteven" is plagued with an "endlessly spinning gear-like wheel in the menu bar" and has turned to the forums for some advice.
