Facebook Home launches to heavily negative reviews

Nearly half of reviewers give Facebook Home one star

Facebook's new Android launcher debuted on Friday as expected, but users in Google's Play Store appear to have a largely negative take on the app. The Google Play page for the app has garnered hundreds of poor ratings, and the app's overall rating is middling at best. Nearly half of the users reviewing the app have rated it at only one star.

The app -- revealed earlier this month in a media event -- became available for download on Friday. Within hours of its release, 47.7 percent of its ratings were one-star ratings. Overall, Facebook Home had an average rating of 2.3, compared with 4.4 for Facebook Messenger and 3.6 for the full Facebook app, according to The Next Web.

Since then, the app's overall rating has improved slightly. It now has an average rating of 2.5, though 44 percent of its ratings are still one star. Google has assured The Next Web that only users that have installed the app are allowed to leave a review, so the ratings are from legitimate users.

The app has been downloaded between 50,000 and 100,000 times in the day since its release. It is currently only available in the United States, and even there only on six specific devices due to system requirements.

I'm not a Facebook user, but if their website design is any indication of how they go about UI design and functionality, I'm not surprised by the low ratings.
