Verizon Galaxy Camera gets mystery software update

Android camera gets 180MB update, effect unclear

Owners of Samsung's Android-powered Galaxy Camera should be receiving a software update today if their devices run on Verizon's network. The new update, picked up by Droid Life, looks to be considerable, as it measures 180MB in size. What exactly the software update contains, though, is as yet unknown.

The Galaxy Camera still runs Android 4.1.2 after the upgrade, so the download isn't an OS update. As of Sunday, neither Verizon nor Samsung has released any information on the software. In launching the Galaxy S4, Samsung promised that the camera software from its new flagship handset would be making its way to a number of its other devices.

It's unclear at the moment whether the update will be rolling out to other Galaxy Camera units or if it is just a carrier-specific upgrade. Verizon customers with a Galaxy Camera should be able to access the over-the-air download by going into the Settings menu on their devices and checking for software updates.
