Google updates mobile search with quick views, expandable links

updated 04:36 pm EDT, Wed April 17, 2013

Change should speed up browsing

Google has made two significant changes to the way mobile web search results are presented, an official blog post states. The first is the concept of an expandable sitelink; some results now show a series of drop-down menus below them, which when opened reveal links to specific pages or subsections. Google uses the example of Rotten Tomatoes, in which tapping on the "In Theaters" menu will display "Best Movies in Theaters" and "New Movies in Theaters" links.

The other addition is a "quick view" button for webpages. Tapping this will display a page without having to leave Google.com. At the moment, though, Google is classifying this as an "experimental project," enabled only for English results from Wikipedia.
