Evernote looks to create 'new and magical' devices in future

Note-taking app company to work with manufacturers on unknown devices

Evernote is looking towards releasing its own branded hardware within the next few years. The makers of the note-taking application will work with other hardware producers to create devices specifically for the service, though what form these products would take has yet to be revealed by the company.

"We won't actually do the manufacturing, but we'll do the co-design together," said Evernote CEO Phil Libon to the IDG News Service. "Eventually, in a few years, three, four, five, I think we'll be ready to do something ourselves." In terms of what the eventual device could be, Libin states the company wants to make "new and magical" devices instead of creating something that already exists.

Aside from the apps, Evernote currently works with product producers to add Evernote integration in some form. It was listed as one of the first third-party apps that would use Google Glass, works with the Livescribe Sky Wi-Fi Smartpen, and it has also worked with Moleskin to create the Evernote Smart Notebook.

The expansion to hardware is only one way that Evernote is looking to increase revenues by. In order to compete with Google Keep and Microsoft OneNote, it will continue in its efforts to promote its corporate note-taking and collation service, Evernote Business. "We're not on defence," claimed Libin. "I think it's pretty tough to duplicate what we have, but it's certainly possible."
