Samsung preparing for 30 million shipments in first quarter on sale

Samsung is expecting to ship 10 million Galaxy S 4 units in its first month on sale, reports Digitimes. Citing supply chain sources familiar with Samsung's component orders, it is also thought that Samsung could ship as many as 30 million Galaxy S 4 smartphones in the second quarter. Samsung has ramped for Galaxy S4 launches in 50 countries on 327 carries helping it to ship in high quantities on its launch at the end of the month.

Although Samsung sources many of the components for the Galaxy S 4 in house, including processors, panels, image sensors and memory, it is manufacturing the Galaxy S 4 in plants in South Korea and seven other plants located around the globe including Vietnam and China. Unlike HTC, which was hit by component shortages delaying the launch of its One handset, there has been no indication that Samsung will see any hiccups hampering supply.

The Galaxy S 4 is Samsung's latest flagship handset and is packed with an array of hardware and software features, some impressive and some gimicky. While the North American version will ship with a quad-core Snapdragon processor, the international model will ship with a 4+4 Exynos Octa featuring four high-performance cores mated with four power saving cores for a total of eight cores. The device also centers on a large 5-inch display taking it into what had been considered 'phablet' territory.
