Inhon Carbon Tablet uses optional Surface-style keyboard

Processor in tablet runs slower when closed, full speed when opened out

Taiwanese manufacturer Inhon has revealed a tablet that shares aspects of its design with the Microsoft Surface. The Carbon Tablet, following on from the 10.7mm-thick Blade 13 Carbon notebook shown yesterday, is able to vary its processing power depending on if it is held closed like a tablet, or opened up for desk-based use.

Using a hinge, the tablet found by Engadget runs slower and quieter when enclosed, in order to protect its Intel Core i3, i5, or i7 processor. Opening the hinge to prop the screen up to allow the cooling fan to breathe lets it run at full speed. A removable cover that mimics the touch cover of the Surface is also usable, providing a keyboard and trackpad to supplement the touchscreen, while USB 3.0 and Mini DisplayPorts are also available for connectivity. Not much else is revealed about the Windows 8-based tablet, except it weighs less than two pounds.

Though unlikely to make its way outside of Taiwan, the Carbon Tablet is estimated to launch in the future for between $1,000 and $1,300.
