Radio Shack expands Apple accessories line with Mac options

updated 03:50 am EDT, Sun April 21, 2013

Keyboards, Magsafe, Airport devices, cables and more now available

Coming on the heels of a similar expansion of Apple offerings in US Staples stores in February, Radio Shack has opted to expand its current line of Apple-made iOS accessories with additional offerings aimed at Mac owners, including wired (and wireless) keyboards, Magic Mouses and Trackpads, Magsafe power adapters, USB SuperDrives, Airport products and various cables and adapters. The company has also added an accessories section to its Apple product page, and is offering a $10 store credit for purchases over $30 from the section.

The retailer also offers a wide variety of Apple and third-party iOS accessories and has done so for years, in addition to selling devices such as the iPhone, the iPod touch and iPad. Prices are the same as found in Apple retail stores, with Radio Shack carrying most of the Mac accessory line. The company has been aggressive in selling iPhones in conjunction with various carriers, often in reaction to pricing moves from Best Buy.

The move adds over 4,700 additional retail locations on top of the 1,800 locations from Staples, which joins locations such as Best Buy that also carry Macs and Mac accessories. In Canada, Staples had already been selling Apple Mac accessories for some time, along with Best Buy-owned Futureshop and other locations, serving as a forerunner of the current US expansion drive. In the US, sources have suggested that Staples is preparing to also sell iPhones, iPads, Apple TV units and even portable Macs, directly competing with and possibly surpassing Radio Shack's current Apple offerings.
