US customers offered HTC One 32GB unlocked, direct from webstore
HTC has made the 32GB version of its One smartphone available directly to customers through its online store for $575. Unlike the 64GB HTC One Developer Edition, which is also available unlocked and direct to customers, the 32GB version does not ship with an unlocked bootloader. The HTC One is the Taiwanese company's flagship smartphone and is considered to be the best placed Android challenger to Samsung's Galaxy S 4.
HTC has begun and extensive marketing campaign for the One with headed up by its HTC One Live Experience Tour, following its later than expected arrival on the market. The roadshow utilizes pop-up showrooms in malls while also targeting cinemagoers with a Live Cinema Experience. BoomSound Lounges are also being set up that will feature live performances by artists including Pharell, Grouplove and Manchester Orchestra.
To help differentiate the HTC One from the Galaxy S 4, HTC is focusing on its premium aluminum unibody build, its 4.7-inch 1080p display with a pixel density of 468ppi, its quad-core 1.7GHz Snapdragon 600 processor, Ultrapixel camera that reduces the megapixel count to 4, while increasing the light that reaches the cameras sensor. HTC is also focusing on the dual front-facing speakers on the One and a range of software enhancements including HTC Zoe that captures up to 20 photos to create a 3-second highlight video.
