SimCity patched to 2.0, users decry worsening bugs plaguing game

updated 08:46 pm EDT, Wed April 24, 2013

Reddit, official forums flooded with continuing and new problem

Following the SimCity server debacle in early March, publisher Electronic Arts and developer Maxis promised to fix many of the problems with the troubled Game with a 2.0 patch. The patch was released earlier this week by the pair, and was met with complaints that not only did it not fix many issues, but made some aspects of gameplay worse, netting an overall worse gameplay experience.

Users are cataloging a litany of new and continuing problems with the game. Players are still complaining of city modeling issues, leader boards with no data, issues with the restored "Cheetah" mode, unusable old cities, graphical issues, continued traffic pathing problems and more.

Fans of the game are swarming both Reddit and the game's official forums, complaining about the worsening issues in the game. More severe errors include new crashes to desktop, cities stuck with no ability to build new zones, and sound bugs making trees sound like streetcars.

Kotaku writer Kirk Hamilton spoke on the patch to the game, saying that "as time goes on and the dust settles, we'll have a clearer picture of just what's new with the 2.0 patch; what's gotten better, and what's gotten worse. But it does seem for the moment that at the very least, the 2.0 update isn't going to give SimCity the overhaul it needs."

SimCity ships for the Macintosh on June 11. No word has been given as to what patch revision will ship, nor if there will be another official EA/Maxis patch before then.
