Tablet waterproof at depth of 3 feet for 30 minutes, dustproof

Sony has opened up pre-orders for its Xperia Tablet Z in the United States via its online store. Shown off at Mobile World Congress in February, the ten-inch tablet measures just 6.9mm thick and weighs in at 495 grams (17.4 ounces), and as well as being dustproof, it is claimed waterproof enough to survive being at a depth of 3 feet for 30 minutes.

Using a 1920x1200-resolution display with Sony's Mobile Bravia Engine 2 technology, the Xperia Tablet Z is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro clocked at 1.5GHz with 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage with microSD expansion, and a rear-facing 8.1-megapixel Emor R camera. The battery is rated at 6,000mAh, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity is present, and a pre-installed SideView app uses an infrared transmitter to turn the tablet into a remote control.

The Xperia Tablet Z will be shipping on May 24th, and will cost $600 for the Wi-Fi-only device, with Unwired View noting pre-ordering customers receiving the $45 charging cradle at no extra charge.
