AT&T makes LG Optimus G Pro official, opens pre-orders May 3rd

updated 11:19 am EDT, Wed May 1, 2013

Discounts on $200 up-front charge for phone trade-ins

AT&T has officially announced it will be bringing the LG Optimus G Pro to its network. Confirming previous rumors, the carrier will be offering the smartphone on a two-year contract with an up-front $200 charge, with pre-orders online and in retail stores starting from May 3rd for a release one week later, on May 10th.

The Optimus G Pro houses a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor running at 1.7GHz with 2GB of RAM, and uses a 5.5-inch IPS 1080p display. On the back is a 13-megapixel camera partnered with a 2.1-megapixel front-facing version, with the two able to simultaneously record video. Inside, there's a 3,140mAh battery, 32GB of storage with expansion via microSD, LTE, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connectivity, and the ability to use it as an infrared remote control.

When Electronista tried the Optimus G Pro at Mobile World Congress, the size of the screen seemed to be a bit too bulky for normal use, and was quick and responsive to use, though was slightly overshadowed by other devices on display.

AT&T will be offering customers who trade in a recent model of smartphone at an AT&T store an instant credit of at least $100 towards the Optimus G Pro, with some models of phone providing higher levels of credit.
