Offer not available in US, Canada

BlackBerry has revealed a plan to entice users of revision 7.0 of its operating system to upgrade to the 2011-vintage version 7.1. Until June 3, the company is offering 10 pre-selected paid apps to users in France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, and the UK that make the transition. The offer is notably not available in the company's home country of Canada, or the US.

Apps available for free to users of the BlackBerry Curve 9360/9380, BlackBerry Bold 9790/9900, BlackBerry Torch 9810/9860 or Porsche Design P9981 that upgrade are EA Sports FIFA 13, The Sims 3 Supernatural, BeWeather, Screen Muncher, Color ID Free, InstaPhoto, DriveSafely Pro, NOVA for BBM, UNO and Friends, and Photo Studio Pro.

The BlackBerry 7.1 upgrade includes FM radio improvements, BlackBerry TAG, Wi-Fi Calling, and mobile hotspot functionality, as well as security enhancements and assorted bug fixes. The update is intended for users who can't or choose not to upgrade their hardware to support the BB10 OS, as featured on the company's newest smartphones.
