Samsung Galaxy Core aimed at mid-range segment

Samsung has launched the Galaxy Core, a new mid-range smartphone that is also available in a dual-SIM variant. The new device continues with Samsung's current Galaxy styling with rounded corners and an arched back, while also retaining the plastic body. It also carries Samsung's S-Voice and Smart Stay function that allows tracks a user's eyes recognizing when to keep the display on or turn it off.

The Samsung Galaxy Core centers on a 4.3-inch LCD display with a resolution of 480x800 pixels. It is powered by an unspecified 1.2GHz dual-core processor matched with 1GB of RAM, while internal storage is limited to 8GB. However, it supports microSD cards up to 64GB. On the rear of the Core is a 5-megapixel camera, while the front facing camera has a VGA resolution.

Sensors built into the device include an accelerometer, proximity sensor and digital compass. A GPS module is also included as is a radio. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, microUSB and USB 2.0. A high capacity 1800mAh battery is also built in, although cellular connectivity is limited to 3G networks. The Galaxy Core will ship with Android 4.1 'Jelly Bean' on board.

Pricing has not yet been set, however, the dual-SIM variant of the Galaxy Core will go on sale this month, with a single-SIM version going on sale in July.
