Sony revamps 2013 notebook line with new Vaio Fit 14, 15-inch models

Sony Japan has revealed a new lineup of notebooks for 2013 that also carry new branding. The new 'Fit' series encompasses a wide range of notebooks that the company is targeting at "students and business users who are looking for a step up and want more of a premium design but still at an entry-level price point." The 14- and 15-inch touchscreen notebooks also span a wide price range, starting at $550 with the high end models topping out at $2,210.

The low-end models carry the Fit 14E and Fit 15E designations, while the premium models drop the 'E' and are known simply as the Fit 14 and Fit 15. As with Sony's new smartphones which integrate a range of Sony technologies from across the its expansive product portfolio, the new Fit notebooks follow a similar path. Exmor R cameras and ClearAudio technology is built-in, while the high-end models also incorporate Sony's Blu-ray drives.

There are four new models in total, with all running Windows 8 64-bit installations with Intel processors ranging from low-end Pentiums, through to third-gen Core i3, i5 and i7 silicon. Graphics include either integrated Intel HD 4000 GPUs, or models equipped with Nvidia GT 740M (1GB or 2GB) chips will also be made available. Hard drive options include standard spinning platters, or hybrid combos up to 1TB.

The new Fit notebooks will be available in silver, black and pink and will be available from mid-May in the US. They will be joined by refreshed Vaio L, Tap 20 and T15 PCs. [via Engadget]
