Walmart to be exclusive retailer, selling W1 as prepaid smartphone
Huawei will be putting its first Windows Phone 8 device on sale in the United States as a prepaid device in the near future. The Huawei Ascend W1, renamed the Huawei W1 for the US market, will be made available in Walmart stores and Walmart.com later this month, and retains the same specifications and feature set that Electronista saw at Mobile World Congress in February.
Using a 4-inch IPS display with Gorilla Glass protection and a resolution of 480x800, the W1 uses a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor with 512MB of RAM, 1.7GB of storage available to the user from the internal 4GB, extendable by up to 32GB via microSD. On the rear is a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash, and 720p video recording capability complimented by a VGA camera on the front, and also comes with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.
It is not revealed what the eventual price of the W1 will be, except that it will be "competitively" priced compared to other prepaid phones.
