Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom camera phone inbound

Samsung has submitted a Galaxy S4 Zoom to the Bluetooth SIG group for Bluetooth 4.0 certification. The device is set to join the fresh battle for the rejuvenated camera phone segment with a 10x optical zoom built-in for users looking for better camera shots as their first priority in a smartphone. Listed on the Bluetooth SIG site as a "Samsung Mobile Phone" the device also carries the model designation SM-C101.

Samsung has previously used its Galaxy branding on the Galaxy Camera, which combines Android and smartphone-like interface with a 21x zoom 16-megapixel camera. However, that device despite including 3G connectivity was never intended for use as a smartphone. The new device is expected to be much more like a phone, although it will be, inevitably, thicker than Samsung's current crop of traditional smartphones that have a 'camera second' approach.

Other rumored specifications for the Galaxy S4 Zoom include a 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED display as well as 8GB of built-in storage. This will be supplemented by support for micro-SD cards. However, images of the device or even information about the megapixel count of its sensor or processor are still yet to surface. Despite this, the rumor mill suggests that all will be revealed in June. [via GSM Arena]
