NEC LaVie first to tout Intel 'Haswell' CPUs, beats Intel to the punch

The NEC LaVie L has surfaced on the NEC Japan website and is one of the first notebooks to feature Intel's next-generation 'Haswell' processors. The new chips will carry the 'Core' branding and will be available in Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 variants as it has in its previous three generations. NEC has 'jumped the gun' somewhat in revealing the specs of the new notebook with Intel not expected to formally launch the chips until Computex Taipei in early June.

The fourth-generation Intel Core chips will be manufactured on a 22nm process and have been tailored to use around half the power of Intel's 'Ivy Bridge' processors while delivering similar performance. Graphics performance from Intel's next-gen integrated GPU is also expected to deliver double the performance of the current-gen Intel HD 4000. Higher end versions of the 'Haswell' chips will carry the new high-performance integrated GPU and will be specially branded as either Iris or Iris Pro.

NEC has not specified which of the 'Haswell' chips the new notebook runs, although it is likely it will come with at least a couple of different processer options. However, the company goes on to tout that the notebook is fitted with a 'Super Shine LED-EX2 IPS LCD display. The LaVie will also come with Yamaha sound and will be equipped with hybrid hard drives with the OS installed on the SSD portion. [via CNET]
