Apple, CW sign deal to put content on Apple TV

updated 09:13 pm EDT, Thu May 16, 2013

Will feature day-after airing of new episodes

A CW app should soon appear on the Apple TV, Deadline reports. CW CEO Mark Pedowitz announced a deal with Apple during the network's annual upfront presentation in New York. A version of CW TV Now is already available for two Apple platforms -- the iPhone and the iPad -- but Apple TV support should put the app in a more viewing-friendly spot, as with the Xbox 360 and Windows 8 apps.

Like its counterparts, the Apple TV app will show new episodes the day after their initial broadcast. No cable subscription data will be required, but users will have to deal with advertising.

Pedowitz hasn't said when the app will go live. It should, however, be the first on the Apple TV offered directly by a network. Rumors have hinted that HBO may join up later this year, but the network has typically been cautious about digital, since it depends heavily on its deals with cable and satellite providers.
