HTC doubles production capacity for HTC One due to 'strong demand'

Higher sales could help HTC turn around loss of profit in Q2 results

HTC is working on doubling the amount of HTC One devices it can produce, in order to meet what it calls "strong demand" from its customers. The company aims to manufacture twice as many of the flagship smartphone as it did last month, with a view to increasing it further as time goes on, after overcoming supply chain issues and a legal misunderstanding with Nokia over its microphones.

President of HTC North Asia Jack Tong told Focus Taiwan "Our capacity is expected to rise significantly stating from mid-May," during a press conference concerning HTC's sponsorship of a Cirque du Soleil show. "We are optimistic about our high-end sales during April and June," said Tong. It is possible that the higher sales may have been helped by the poor reviews of the Samsung Galaxy S4, in which many reviewers directly compared it to, and also favored, the HTC smartphone.

The uptick in manufacturing and the higher demand for the HTC One will likely help the company reverse its financial situation for its second quarter results. Results in the first quarter were not affected by the HTC One due to its late release, which ultimately led to the company announcing a profit of just $2.8 million for the quarter, a year-on-year decline of 98 percent.
