Picture supposedly taken with Galaxy Note III shows up online

updated 04:03 pm EDT, Sun May 19, 2013

Picture may be from forthcoming Galaxy Note device

A new image has appeared online that could have been taken by an as yet announced Samsung Galaxy Note III. The image appeared on SmartFan over the weekend, showing nothing of much interest. What was notable was the image's EXIF data, which lists the device taking the picture as GT-N7200.

That product code follows directly from GT-N7100, the code Samsung used for the Galaxy Note II. According to the EXIF data, the device features an f/2.2 lens and a 13MP sensor.

As it is possible to fake EXIF data, it's uncertain whether or not the image came from an actual Galaxy Note III device. With its expected unveiling just months away, though, it is entirely possible that Samsung has test units out and functioning.

The Galaxy Note III will likely be unveiled in the fall at IFA Berlin 2013, where Samsung has revealed previous models in the Note line. Even since the release of the Galaxy Note II, rumors have circulated as to the capabilities of its successor. Earlier rumors centered on the idea of a foldable touchscreen, allowing Samsung to pack more screen real estate into a smaller package. The company has reportedly run into yield issues with its flexible screen technology, though, and the Note III may not feature such capabilities.

The Note III is expected to be larger than the Galaxy Note II, with estimates ranging up to 6.3-inches diagonal for its display. Inside, the device may pack an Exynos Octa CPU clocked at 2GHz and paired with 3GB of RAM.
