HP Envy Rove, 20-inch portable touchscreen desktop with Win 8

HP has taken a stab at the fledging mobile desktop market with its new Envy Rove. Like the Sony Vaio Tap 20 and the Dell XPS 18, the Envy Rove does double duty as an all-in-one touchscreen Windows 8 desktop computer, while it also incorporates an in-built battery for mobile use around the house. The Envy Rove is one of three new all-in-ones HP announced today, which also offer a choice of the latest Intel 'Haswell' silicon scheduled for widespread availability in July.

The Envy Rove, despite its size and relative thickness, relies on Intel's HD4000 integrated GPU to render its IPS 1600x900 pixel display. Its integrated battery will deliver up to three hours of use when on the go, which is short of the four hours offered by the Dell XPS 18, but more than the two hours of battery life delivered by the Sony Tap 20. Connectivity includes 802.11ac, three USB ports and Intel's Wi-Di. A 1TB hybrid hard drive is also built, while HP continues its relationship with Beats to power its speakers. It is expected to retail for under $1,000 when it goes on sale next month.

HP also took the covers off a couple of other, but more traditional, all-in-one desktops. These include the 20-inch HP Pavilion Touchsmart 20 and the 23-inch Pavilion Touchsmart 23 that use 5-point multitouch displays. Chips on offer include the latest Intel 'Haswell' fourth-generation Core-series processors as well as the latest processors from AMD. The Touchsmart 20 will be available before the end of the month from $620, while the Touchsmart 23 will be available in early June from $749. [via PC World]
