updated 04:03 pm EDT, Tue May 28, 2013

Pair of companies share similar devices, founders

Kickstarted provider of network attached storage devices Connected Data and similar manufacturing and design company Drobo today announced they have entered into a merger agreement. Terms of the deal were not announced, and the pair have 30 days to finalize the merger.

The companies have a common lineage. The current founder and CEO of Connected Data was the original founder of Drobo. The Connected Data team consists of the same engineers responsible for creating the high-performance BlueArc Silicon Server and the Drobo storage array. Connected Data is privately funded and based in Santa Clara, California.

Drobo devices allow users to hot-swap drives, mix and match drives of different capacities, speeds, and types, and perform zero-support drive pack migration. The company has won 53 industry awards for its products.
