Suggests songs from curated lists, playlists of friends
Spotify has updated its web-based player with music discovery options, something the company demonstrated late last year. Building upon the social aspects already offered by the Spotify apps, the Discover tab provides curated content from a number of other services, as well as suggestions based upon the listening habits and playlists of friends.
Content will be curated by Pitchfork, Songkick, and Tunigo, among others, while also taking into account the user's track history. Once a song starts playing, Spotify will instantly recommend more tracks to play next. New songs from artists followed by the user will also be flagged for listening, accompanied by tour details from Songkick if the singer or band is playing nearby in the future.
The Discover tab is available immediately through the web player, and will "gradually roll out" to the desktop and mobile apps.
