ITC to re-examine split ruling in Apple v. Samsung dispute

updated 01:52 pm EDT, Wed May 29, 2013

Text selection, headphone jack patents at stake

The US International Trade Commission will review a split decision made by a judge in a patent dispute between Apple and Samsung, Reuters reports. In March the judge ruled that while Samsung had infringed an Apple patent on text selection, it hadn't infringed on one for detecting accessories plugged into a microphone jack. Final rulings on both patents due to be handed down August 1st.

Apple's complaint dates back to the middle of 2011. While ITC rulings don't have the same potential ramifications as the civil lawsuits Apple and Samsung are pursuing, they can result in devices being blocked from sale in the US. Most of the products involved in the ITC case are, however, out-of-date and/or no longer on the market.
