Google to sell HTC One with stock Android 'Nexus User Experience'

updated 12:36 pm EDT, Thu May 30, 2013

HTC changes mind about stock Android after earlier denial.

A version of the HTC One with a stock installation of Android will be available to purchase, according to a Google executive. Sundar Pichai, head of Android and Chrome at the company, confirmed the rumors at the D11 conference in California, stating it will be available to buy on Google Play from June 26th for $599, SIM-free.

The on-stage discussion by Pichai has been reiterated in a HTC blog post, confirming it will have the "Nexus user experience" and that future software updates for the Android 4.2.2 installation would be provided by Google. It also advised that the device will be sold in the United States initially and support GSM networks, with a view to adding more markets in the future, as well as a reminder that they could also buy a SIM-unlocked Developer Edition from HTC directly, with 64GB of storage instead of the Nexus experience version's 32GB for $649.

HTC previously denied it would sell a stock Android version of the HTC One, shortly after Google revealed it was to sell the Google Edition of the Samsung Galaxy S4.
