Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 alleged to use Intel Atom instead of ARM

Multiple reports make claim of Clover Trail+ in Samsung tablet

Samsung may be moving from ARM-based processors to one from Intel for the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1, according to reports. An alleged agreement between Intel and Samsung will see the chip producer's Clover Trail+ architecture used in the tablet, which if true could be a massive coup for the chip producer in its efforts to be used in mobile devices.

Both Reuters and the Korea Times have sources claiming such a deal has taken place, with one suggesting that the Galaxy Tab 3 will be unveiled at Computex 2013 in the first week of June. Reuters also claims that Samsung will be showing ATIV tablets using Intel processors during its June 20th event, but it was not clear if the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 would appear.

While there are no real confirmed details for the Tab 3 10.1, the Tab 3 itself has already been revealed as having a dual-core 1.2GHz processor behind a seven-inch TFT display. A later rumor suggests an eight-inch version, which would have a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, a 1280x800 TFT display, a rear 5-megapixel camera, and a 4,450mAh battery. If the Tab 3 10.1 exists, it is likely to have similar specifications, along with a larger screen.

Intel has been trying to find companies wanting to use its Atom processors in mobile devices for some time now. In recent months, Clover Trail+ has been used by devices from ZTE and Lenovo, but hasn't really found favor with other phone producers compared to processors using ARM technology. By getting Samsung on board, this could encourage other manufacturers to make the switch.
