Google: Nexus line will continue even with stock Android devices

Stock GS4, One won't signal end to Nexus

The release of stock Android versions of the HTC One and Samsung's Galaxy S4, won't signal an end to Google's line of Nexus devices. This according to Google's Senior Vice President of Android, Chrome and Apps, Sundar Pichai, who spoke last week at AllThingsD's D11 event. The continuation of the Nexus line means that the search giant will still collaborate with other manufacturers and not simply rely on stock versions of flagship handsets.

Pichai said that the Nexus line would continue, noting that stock Android flagships and Nexus-branded products weren't mutually exclusive.

"The goal behind Nexus," Pichai said, "was to push forward hardware with partners. That will continue as well."

The revelation of a stock Android Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone was the only hardware unveiling at Google's I/O Android developer conference this year, and the HTC One was revealed to be getting a stock Android version shortly thereafter. Google had been expected to be prepping a follow up to its Nexus 4 handset, made by LG, as well as a new version of its Asus-made Nexus 7 tablet.
