Glance Screen provides always-on clock on display, double-tap unlocking

Nokia has commenced sales of its aluminum-clad smartphone in Germany, with a software beta for its lock screen. The Lumia 925, hitting retailers and carriers in Germany before reaching other European markets, China, then the US, will include something called the Nokia Glance Screen, which will allow some notification access without fully unlocking the device.

Functioning as a permanent clock for the lock screen, unlockable by double tapping, the Glance Screen will show a battery gauge and a status icon for the ringer, as well as offering a "night mode" that uses less lower. Isn't clear if the screen can be personalized to add extra icons, but it is likely to have some sort of option to add to it in a future iteration. Nokia states it will be making the Glance Screen available to other Windows Phone 8 Lumia devices as part of its software update, scheduled in July.

The Lumia 925 offers a 4.5-inch AMOLED display running at 1280x768, a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon with 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage. On the rear is an 8.7-megapixel PureView smart camera with Carl Zeiss optics, and the Lumia 925 also has NFC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, and 4G LTE connectivity options.
