May hint at dimensions of next iPhone

A new photo shows what is claimed to be one of Logitech's upcoming MFi-certified game controllers. The image, obtained by Kotaku, depicts a gamepad with a D-pad and four action buttons; a fifth button's purpose is unknown. The hardware appears designed to fit an iPhone 5 or a fifth-generation iPod touch.

Support for MFi game controllers is a part of the iOS 7 SDK, and iOS 7 itself is slated to arrive in the fall. That's also when the first MFi controllers are rumored to be arriving, along with new iPhones, iPods, and/or iPads. It may be that the pictured controller will fit unannounced iPhones and iPods, in which case Apple appears to be holding to the 4-inch display format established by the iPhone 5.
