Haswell i5 drives convertible Ativ Q, Tab 3 comes loaded with Office 2013
At its recently-concluded product release event, Samsung unveiled a pair of portable devices -- the dual-booting convertible Ativ Q, and the Ativ Tab 3. The Ativ Q is a 13.3-inch device with a 3200x1800 screen, capable of booting into Windows 8 or Android 4.2.2. The Ativ Tab 3 is also a full Windows 8 device in a 10.1-inch, 1366x768 resolution form factor. Notably, the Ativ Tab 3 device comes pre-loaded with Microsoft Office 2013.
The Ativ Q is driven by an unspecified Intel Core i5 Haswell processor, with claims that the device will run for up to 9 hours between battery charges -- notably less than the latest 13-inch MacBook Air model's touted battery life. Intel HD 4400 graphics drive the display of the tablet, which has 4GB of DDR3L memory, and storage is provided by a 128GB SSD. Ports on the device are a single USB 3.0 port, a single USB 2.0 port, HDMI, a HP/microphone combo port, and a MicroSD slot. As a transformable, the Ativ Q can be laid flat for tablet mode, can be raised upright like a laptop. The device weighs 2.84 lbs (1.29kg) and is 13.9mm thick.
The Ativ Tab 3 is a 10.1-inch device in a more conventional tablet form factor. A Intel Atom Z2760 powers the device with 2GB of LPDDR2 memory. Storage is provisioned with a 64GB eMMC. Battery life is claimed at up to 10 hours. The device is 8.2mm thick, and is 1.21 lbs (550g) in weight.
Pricing and availability have not been announced for either device.
