Sony takes on Galaxy Note III with Xperia Z Ultra

Screenshots from Sony's forthcoming Xperia Z Ultra have been leaked and confirm that the device will sport an oversize 6.4-inch 1080p display with a density of 342 pixels per inch. The screenshots also show that that the device will also be among the first to run Qualcomm's Snapgradon 800 quad-core processor clocked at an impressive 2.2GHz. The Xperia Z Ultra is due to be revealed at forthcoming launch event on July 4 already teased by Sony and will sport a similar design language to its Xperia Z 5-inch flagship smartphone.

One of the headlining features for the Xperia Z Ultra is a stylus input system, the first Sony Android device to utilize the technology as the company prepares to go head to head with Samsung's forthcoming Galaxy Note III. According to rumors, the Sony phablet will support stylus input from any pointing device - the teaser materials depict what looks like a regular ballpoint pen.

This differs from the input technology used in Samsung's current Galaxy Note-branded devices, which require a special stylus. Interestingly, Sony's phablet will also outgun the Galaxy Note III with its 6.4-inch display dwarfing the 5.99-inch display of Samsung's device. The display on the Sony Xperia Z Ultra is also expected to be the first Sony mobile device to feature the company's Triluminous tech, with X-Reality for mobile at a resolution of 1080x1824 pixels.

The Sony Xperia Z Ultra (previously known by its codename as the Togari), will debut in around two weeks. [via GSMArena]
