Samsung to continue creating desktop PCs in future

Samsung has denied that it is ceasing sales of desktop personal computers, following reports alleging it would do so while it is restructuring its PC business. Rumors citing executives stating it would be diverting resources towards tablets and notebooks rather than desktops was declared "groundless" by the company in a statement.

The initial report from the Korea Times features quotes from an unnamed Samsung official, saying "Demand for conventional desktop PCs is going down," and that "we will allocate our resources to popular connected and portable devices." Research teams for tablets and "all-in-one laptops" were being boosted, while the desktop PC business was said to be in the process of being phased out.

While desktop PC shipments are suffering globally, providing a potential grain of truth for the rumor, Samsung did spend some time during its latest press event showing off the Ativ One 5 Style all-in-one desktop computer, which incorporated aspects of the Galaxy device design scheme into its appearance.

A statement from the company denying the report has been received by The Next Web, and states "The rumor that Samsung is withdrawing from the PC desktop business is groundless. Samsung will continue to offer diverse PC products according to consumer and market needs."
