Sony offers fix for PlayStation 3 owners affected by faulty firmware
Sony has offered ways to fix PlayStation 3 consoles crippled by a bug in firmware version 4.45. The PlayStation support center tells users to manually download the update to a USB flash drive or other compatible external storage, set the game console into "Safe Mode," connect the storage to the console, then to install the 4.46 software update. Affected consoles failed to successfully complete the boot sequence, though while the firmware fault affected some users, a large number of others did not see the error at all.
