updated 09:39 pm EDT, Mon July 1, 2013

Previous Japan only 256 GB model to sell for $1,200

Following its availability in Japan, Microsoft has commenced selling 256GB models of its Surface Windows 8 tablet in the US. Additionally, the company has expanded the venues the tablet can be purchased through, including companies like CDW, and others, now carrying the device, other than just "official resellers."

Joining the program are all US sellers -- CDW, CompuCom Systems, En Pointe Technologies, Insight Enterprises, Softchoice, Softmart, SHI, PC Connection, PCM, and Zones will retail the device.

North American pricing for the 256GB Surface Windows 8 tablet is $1,200, and was spotted at new partner CDW. No other hardware or specifications for the device have been changed.
