Apple CEO Tim Cook to attend Sun Valley conference in Idaho

300 tech, media industry leaders gather for private confab

Tim Cook will be among the hundreds of industry leaders attending the annual Sun Valley conference in Idaho over four days beginning on Tuesday. Cook and Laureen Powell-Jobs, the widow of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, attended the conference last year in a first-time move for both of them. The event comprises panels, discussions, presentations and networking amidst social events covering business, political and economic topics. The conference, run by investment bank Allen & Company, gives leaders from across an array of industries a chance to interact privately.

Cook was a surprise speaker at last year's conference, while Powell-Jobs was presumably attending to support her immigration and education initiatives to industry and media leaders. News Corporation President Rupert Murdock, Disney CEO Bob Iger and CBS head Les Moonves are among the media executives expected to attend again this year, while tech company CEOs like Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg, Amazon's Jeff Bezos and the Google triumvirate of Larry Page, Sergey Brin and Eric Schmidt among many others are all regular attendees.

Also among the attendees this year, according to AppleInsider, is the so-called "King of Cable" -- a man Cook will likely want to talk to. Liberty Media Chairman John Malone now owns 28 percent of Charter Communications, and many believe he is planning to foster consolidation in the cable industry.

Apple has recently been expanding the offerings and abilities of its Apple TV "hobby" and has expressed continuing interest in the overall television experience, calling it "outdated." The company is also rumored to be working on a branded HDTV set or similar project to showcase its ideas on taking TV into the next few decades.
