HTC to use HTC One fab process in future models

HTC working to introduce all-metal designs for next-gen models

HTC is committed to utilizing the 'all-metal' construction that has helped its HTC One grab a lot of positive press. Speaking to CNET, HTC's senior manager of design and innovation, Justin Huang, confirmed that the lessons in fabrication that it has learnt with the production of the One will feature in a number of its upcoming devices. The first of its next-gen smartphones to feature a metal body is the HTC One mini, which is expected to be formally unveiled sometime next month.

The HTC One mini looks very much like a smaller version of the HTC One on which its design cues are also derived. The new device has already turned up in a number of photo leaks and while it has slightly fewer high-end specifications, it still offers design appeal to many users. While the HTC One offers a 1080p display, it is 4.7-inches in size making it uncomfortable to use for some users. The HTC One mini downgrades the display resolution to 720p, but in a much more manageable 4.3-inches.

The HTC One has helped to steal some sales of high-end smartphones back from Samsung, which was expected to dominate Android sales conclusively with its Galaxy S4. However, its all-plastic body has been a major point of differentiation that HTC has been able to capitalize upon and is planning to continue to push into future models. It will take Samsung considerable lead-time to realign its manufacturing efforts to tackle HTC, and Apple, on the materials front. However, early rumors suggest that Samsung's 2014 flagship may also switch to aluminum construction.
