Microsoft allegedly slashing Surface with Windows RT by $150 next week

updated 03:47 pm EDT, Thu July 11, 2013

Move aimed at clearing inventory channel of old units before upgrade

Paving the way for a new release, Microsoft is reportedly preparing for an imminent price reduction on the Surface RT tablet. Sources familiar with the matter claim the cuts are coming as early as next week, with all models being slashed by $150.

The news of the cut was broken by The Verge earlier today, and comes hours after a Microsoft presentation leaked an imminent upgrade of both the Windows RT and full Windows versions of the Surface. The 32GB Surface RT will sell for $350 after the cut, with the Surface RT 64GB model with touch cover selling for $550.
