Nokia Lumia 1020 reaches AT&T for $300 up front

Nokia's Lumia 1020 Windows Phone 8 flagship handset is now up for pre-order with AT&T. As expected, the device is retailing for $300 on a two-year contract, putting it into the same price point as other flagship devices from both Apple and Samsung. The Lumia 1020 is distinguished by a 41-megapixel PureView image sensor complemented by Carl Zeiss optics with a six-element lens.

Similar camera technology was pioneered by Nokia in the Symbian OS-powered PureView 808, although the Finnish company has refined the technology so that the overall sensor package is much narrower, resulting in a less bulky handset at just 10.4mm. It can take 38-megapixel images in either 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratios, while it can also take high-quality oversampled 5-megapixel images to reduce the overall file size of images. Backside illumination and a xenon flash round out a comprehensive photography package for what is otherwise a smartphone.

In addition to its state-of-the-art camera technology, the Lumia 1020 centers on a 4.5-inch AMOLED display with a 720p resolution protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 self-healing glass layer. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz mated to 2GB of RAM with internal storage capped at 32GB. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 802.11n, Bluetooth 3.0 and NFC. It packs a 2,000mAh battery that can be charged wirelessly using an inductive charge-capable rear cover. [via Unwired View]
