Briefly: Uber update adds fare splitting, NYC Parks gain WiFi

updated 02:46 pm EDT, Tue July 16, 2013

Uber app will now split cab fares among friends

Uber, a private taxi service available in 35 cities around the world, has launched an update for its iOS and Android app that includes new fare splitting functionality. Previously, payments could only be charged to a single customer, forcing groups to split the fare manually before or after the ride. In the latest release, a user can now add any friends they want to split the payment with from directly in the app and each will then receive a text linking them to the Uber app and requesting to split the fare.

New York City brings WiFi access to 32 parks

Thanks to a new partnership with Cablevision and Time Warner Cable, New York City is adding WiFi hotspots to 32 parks across its five boroughs. Free access to these new hotspots will be limited to Cablevision Optimum Online or Time Warner Cable broadband subscribers. Anyone else can access the hotspots for up to 30 minutes every 30 days, while full day passes will cost $1. A full list of WiFi enabled parks can be found online, and this list is expected to expand over the next few months.
