Moto X leak leaves little else for Motorola to reveal on August 1

Motorola's Moto X launch was already spoiled when Google chairman Eric Schmidt was caught brandishing the device in public recently. However, it hadn't been seen in full until now with serial leaker @evleaks revealing it ahead of its formal unveiling on August 1. Of particular note is, like Google's Nexus devices, the front is clear of any sign of branding. A small 'M' logo, however, adorns the rear shell.

The Moto X is the first device to feature Google's influence in its concept and design after it acquired Motorola in 2011 for $12.5 billion, due to a product pipeline that Motorola was committed to. The device is expected to be more customizable than the average smartphone, although exactly how this will work is still to be revealed. A previously leaked video also shows how the phone can be controlled even when in sleep mode, as it is always 'listening' for an "OK Google Now..." spoken command.

The Moto X sports mid-range specs, despite the high-profile nature of its launch. It is said to center on a 4.5-inch 720p display, and is powered by a dual-core Snapdragon S4 (MSM8960T) chip clocked at 1.7GHz matched with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage. Behind its detachable Kevlar rear shell is a 1500mAh battery. Its camera is also capable of automatically switching to HDR when optimal. Its Android OS is virtually stock, with no sign of Motorola's former 'Blur' UI in sight. All will be revealed in less than two weeks from today. [via The Unlockr]
