Chrome OS beta sees UI tweaks, search improvement

Chrome OS users on the beta channel for the platform should have seen their devices updated over the weekend, according to a post from the Google Chrome team. The new build -- version 29.0.1537.32 -- contains a number of bug fixes, security updates, and additional feature enhancements. Chief among these is a new "immersive" mode, which launches a fullscreen browsing session, hiding the navigation bars.

In addition to the immersive mode, the update includes Kernel 3.8 for the Chromebook Pixel and Samsung 550. Users can also now pin apps to the shelf using drag-and-drop from the Launcher, and the update includes a Consumer Kiosk Mode, allowing users to build a Chrome OS-powered kiosk.

The update also adds a two-finger method to navigate browsing history and the ability to sync default wallpaper selections across devices. Finally, the update improved the app launcher search feature. The system now dynamically learns what users search for, searches for apps within the web store if no matching apps are installed, and has a tweaked interface that shows apps in a more prominent fashion.
