Firefox OS update brings faster boot times, patches
Owners of Geeksphone devices can now download an update to Firefox OS that will significantly improve their devices' functionality. Firefox OS version 1.1 was announced last week in a tweet from the Geeksphone Twitter account. The update is available for download from the Geeksphone Forum.
The update brings a number of improvements to the fledgling HTML5-based operating system. Updated phones will now see faster boot times and improved screen functionality. Apps on HD screens are now better sized, and the email and calendar apps have seen functionality improvements. There have also been changes to the functioning of the headphones specifically with regard to their interaction with call answering.
The first smartphones to run Firefox OS went on sale roughly two weeks ago. The HTML5-based operating system is targeted at developing markets, though a number of carriers in the west will also market Firefox OS devices to customers in an attempt to disrupt the Android-iOS duopoly that controls much of the market currently.
