AT&T to add 300MB, 2GB Mobile Share plans on July 26th

Addresses gaps left by original tiers

AT&T is expanding its Mobile Share data plans with two new tiers starting July 26th, the US carrier has announced. A 300MB tier will cost $20 per month, while a 2GB option will cost $50. The prices per smartphone for each plan are $50 and $45, respectively.

Mobile Share lets AT&T subscribers split the same data pool among several different devices, instead of paying for separate subscriptions. Plans previously extended up to 50GB, but the carrier lacked any options between or below 1GB and 4GB. Each subscription must include at least one smartphone, although phones also get unlimited voice and texting.

Is that correct? It costs more to share the smaller plan? Why? Just because they're not parting you with enough money already?

With every new plan they come out with, I'm less and less likely to drop my existing grandfathered plans. I currently give AT&T $86 (iPhone, including all taxes and fees) and $30 (iPad) every month for UNLIMITED data. That's less than what it would cost to share only 300MB across both devices on their current plans.

Has data transmission really gotten that much more expensive? I'm not often away from wi-fi, so most months I would probably be fine with 300MB, but the way they're going with these awful plans, I'm certainly not going to risk losing my current deal.
