Google Android 4.3 code reveals 4K support, App Ops controls

Developers who have started to sift through the latest flavor of Android 'Jelly Bean' have discovered some hidden code for inactive features, reports Android Police. The two most interesting so far include code that will allow Android to support 4K Ultra HD resolutions as well as a new settings function carrying the label 'App Ops.' While it is unlikely that an Android mobile device will feature 4K resolutions in the immediate future, it is thought that the code may find its way into a Google TV update.

Based on the code seen around App Ops, it appears as though Google is going moving to give users greater control over the permissions that an app is given on a device. Currently, users can see what permissions an app has on install, but can't individually control those settings. App Ops looks as though Google is working towards giving users an overview of the services that an app has access to for users who want greater control over what services their apps can interface with on their device.

Also unearthed is an Easter Egg embedded in Google's answer to Apple's Game Center, the recently released 'Play Games' app. By entering a series of gestures, users can activate the Easter Egg, which pops up some retro Konami game controls. When these controls are pressed in the correct sequence, an achievement is unlocked stating "All your game belong to us," which is a reference to the Sega Mega Drive hit Zero Wing.

Android Police posted these instructions on how to activate the Easter Egg:

"In the Google Play Games app, simply swipe the following directions: up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right. The app will then provide you with a button popup to finish up the code with B, A, Start."
