Samsung smart watch said to have model number SM-V700
Samsung has already confirmed that it is working on a smart watch design for release some time in the near future, and now the device's model number has apparently leaked to the media. The model number SM-V700 showed up on Saturday on Zauba, showing a supposed device that is billed as a "Samsung mobile accessory (for R&D purpose)." The leak has no information on when the device might become available.
Samsung-dedicated siteSamMobile also confirmed via sources from Samsung Germany that they had received a smart watch prototype. That source claims that Samsung Germany has already begun testing the device. Since Germany is said to be the only company that has acquired a prototype, observers note that Samsung could be prepping the device for a launch at this year's IFA.
Samsung registered a trademark for Samsung Gear earlier this year, and that brand is widely believed to be cover the company's forthcoming line of wearable technology. Earlier this year the South Korean giant apparently leaked screenshots showing an interface that seems suited to a smart watch form factor.
Wearable computing looks set to grow into a sizable industry in the next year. Industry observers believe tens of millions of devices from an array of manufacturers may ship from industry giants in the next year. Among those manufacturers are Google, Sony, Samsung, and Apple, which is said to have hired scores of designers and developers to develop an iWatch.
